This PDF includes 125 print-your-own mini genogram flashcards covering identities, events, relational patterns, and health issues in the standard genogram visual vocabulary—plus symbols for gender identities and LGBTQA+ communities (note: collaborate with clients to assign symbols in a client-preferred way). It also includes cards for the five basic symbols used in ecomaps, a model for examining relationships within and beyond family systems.
Suggested Uses:
Mental health professionals may find this tool especially helpful for clients to visualize patterns in their families of origin and discover new insights about themselves and their relationships. While commonly used in family therapy, these cards are also useful in healthcare settings, substance use treatment, and individual therapy.

How to Print
Printing flashcards can be a little tricky, so here are two options:
Option 1: Use a printer with double-sided (duplex) printing. Press Ctrl+P, turn on duplex printing, and select “flip on long side.” Set page size to “actual size.” Test print the first two pages. If alignment is off, try printing through Chrome’s built-in PDF viewer using the same settings.
Option 2: Skip duplex alignment by printing only the odd-numbered pages and hand-writing the backs. While more work, this engages
a different part of the brain
than simply using flashcards, which can help boost memorization. Cut apart with scissors or a paper cutter. For best results, print on cardstock (or DIY by cutting file folders to 8.5×11 and feeding them through your printer).
